Was your phone call answered?
This was my first experience with the cremation process and I appreciated the empathy and patience Karla provided me prior to her going on leave. However, in her absence, the communication stopped and I felt lost in the process. I had to call to get updates and felt alone and confused by the lack of communication. Not the experience I had hoped for based on the website's promises.

I would like to highly recommend Northern Virginia Burial & Cremation Society for your dearly departed loved ones services. While assembling the proper documents and products for conducting a burial at sea request, “Janie Dell” provided her expert guidance and support to our family.
While everything in life comes at a cost, showing human compassion and genuine sympathy is priceless.
I have nothing but good things to say. They were extremely kind, empathetic and patient with me. The price was great and everything went without a single problem. I highly recommend them. Thanks for your help in my time of need.

When my brother passed away I was on the west coast and found myself needing to make arrangements remotely. Northern Virginia Burial and Cremation Society staff were informative and helpful without being pushy. They were responsive and flexible. The facility was perfect for our memorial gathering for my brother. During this time of COVID uncertainty the Northern Virginia Burial and Cremation Society staff and services were rock solid.

Had such a wonderful experience with this place, and with Karla, despite this being such a hard time for our family — the passing of my Father was unexpected and close to the Holidays. The price was very reasonable and Karla was so kind and helpful with filling out the forms and kept in constant contact with us in trying to get death certificates, etc. Highly recommend this place!

If I could give this place a negative star rating, I would.
My mother, after enduring a long painful lung disease, passed away at home in July. The attendants who arrived to pick up her body were casual and extremely unprofessional. My mother had just passed and the attendants entered the house joking around and speaking casually and complaining about our request that they take their shoes off while removing mom from the house.
But it gets worse.
When I had to deal with the woman at the cremation society, she immediately was trying to sell me services I didn't want or need. Before choosing this place I specifically asked if they accepted funeral insurance to which the person on the phone said yes. Once they had custody of my mother's body, they said that they did not accept funeral insurance because they needed a special kind of certificate from the insurance company.
When I called my insurance company the attendant had by chance just spoken to the woman from the cremation society, and said she was the most unprofessional person they had dealt with in 10 years. The woman from the Cremation society kept talking as she simultaneously tried to sell me services we didn't need and was extremely condescending. She wasn't even a licensed funeral director. She insisted that we had to pay up front and said there would be an additional fee for them to do the paperwork for my mother to be buried at Arlington cemetery and that they would store her ashes after cremation and charge a high amount of rent for her ashes to be kept at their facility.
It sounded fishy to me so I contacted another facility the Direct Cremation Services VA Chantilly who took our funeral insurance with no problem, was also kind loving and told us the process for burial at Arlington cemetery was something that was very simple and there was something we could do on our own without paying someone. Direct Cremation Services immediately said they would pick my mother's body up from the other company without charging us. They told us the normal charge was usually 150—250 max for a pickup of a body that had been in a location for less than 8 hours. Direct Cremation Services VA was AMAZING. I highly recommend them.
My mother's body had been at the cremation society for less than 5 hours when I called and told them we would not be using their service, and that horrible woman said it would be $500 for us to get the other company to pick my mother's body up.
I can't tell you how horribly NOVA Burial & Cremation Society treated me during the worst experience of my life. NOVA Burial & Cremation Society is not ethical and are total scam artists. They WILL overcharge you for every service they offer. They are unprofessional, condescending people who tried to take advantage of me while I was literally in shock. Don't walk… RUN away from this horrible company. #manipulative #scam #unethical #unprofessional #manipulative #stayawayβ¦ β show
Jeanine, I am so sorry to hear about your experience and would love the opportunity to speak with you personally as this is not typical. I am definitely looking into this with our team. Please feel free to contact me at any time. -Michael Turch

It was such a pleasure to work with Karla, Clint, and the staff at NOVA Burial and Cremation Society. By the time I arrived to pick up my dad's ashes and make plans for the day we would need their services, I felt as if I already knew Karla through our many phone conversations.
In the office, Karla and Clint explained in detail what I had purchased for my dad, and was purchasing for my husband and myself. I was able to leave their office and explain to family what I had paid for and where to find the paperwork, which was also written in a clear and comprehensive manner.
The costs were very reasonable, and everything was done with the utmost attention to my needs and wishes. Karla was very empathetic and very efficient from the outset, and extremely patient when I wasn't quite sure what I wanted for my dad.
I am telling all my friends about this society, and my decision to take care of our future requirements and expenses. What a great choice we can make for the loved ones we will leave behind! I am sure I will never regret making this decision--or working with the good people at NOVA Burial and Cremation Society. With gratitude, Sharon McCreightβ¦ β show

Karla and the rest of the staff couldn’t have been more helpful during the unexpected loss of my brother. It was scary to not only lose my brother at such a young age, but I was completely overwhelmed with how to manage his affairs from five states away. The communication and support from staff was just what my family needed during this difficult time. Thanks will never be enough.

I called on NOVA Burial and Cremation Society for a direct cremation in April 2021. I worked mostly with Karla and Ashton, both of whom were pleasant, competent, and genuinely caring. They walked me through the choices, and were very helpful throughout the process. They truly made this difficult time much easier.

I will always appreciate the professionalism and personal service that we received from the Northern Virginia Burial and Cremation Society after my mother passed away. It was an emotionally difficult time, and Ashton Silva's thoughtful attitude and helpful information on a topic we knew little about was a source of comfort. I also liked the less flashy but personal service that felt much more relatable for our family. I know my mom would approve!

My 96 year old father passed away after a long struggle with cancer. We knew he wanted to be cremated, and that the memorial service would be at his church with his cremains placed in the church’s columbarium. So there was no need for all the services provided by a traditional funeral home. I did contact several funeral homes and received pricing; however, as the time approached, I also started researching direct cremation services in Norhrn VA. After doing so, I settled on the Nothern VA Cremation Society. Their approach seemed straight forward and the pricing, although not an issue, was significantly less than those quoted by the funeral home. They handled everything exactly as expected and exceeded our expectations. Karla and Sam did a fine and respectful job. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a Direct Cremation service.β¦ β show

Northern VA burial & cremation society made an normally difficult experience which was complicated by covid less stressful. Karla Adams kept us informed every step of the way. She was kind, sensitive and easy to deal with. Karla kept our stress level to a minimum, answered questions before we even thought of them. If I could give them 10 stars I would.
While everything in life comes at a cost, showing human compassion and genuine sympathy is priceless.
Thank you so much your your touch of class.
Sincerely,
